Bummed (then not)

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

bummer i went to the optometrist today for my check-up that’s around 11 years late, and after the slide show of different lenses of “better? worse?” she tells me “well your prescription has increased.” yeah i’m not surprised i say, then she adds “your right eye can’t be brought up to 20/20, at best we can get 20/25 which is one step under 20/20″. so i thought to myself that’s not a big deal, it’s just a little under, but then i started thinking more about it and i became increasingly more upset about this. if i’m in my mid 20′s and my right eye as surpassed the limit that can be corrected with glasses does that mean when i’m in my mid 30′s that eye might as well be gone? so i’m bummed. i am however thankful that glasses are no longer made from glass, cause i’d have one really thick lens always flipping my glasses off my face, and that would just be sad. i think i’d opt for the eyepatch on that scenario. which brings me to what i think could be redeeming for me here. i could be a pirate in my mid 30′s and could carry a sword in public without fear of repercussions because hey! “that guys got an eyepatch!” that’s just as good as a license to carry a sword right?! OF COURSE IT IS! i could just imagine the cops comin’ up behind me saying “DROP THE WEAPON AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP” and i’d slowly turn until my eyepatch comes into view, and the gathering crowd breathes a collective sigh as the cops lower their guns. they start small chuckles in a relieved tone. and i smile and say “Savvy?” laughter ensues and i’m given a pat on the back as we all go on about our business.

hmmm. this isn’t so bad after all. SlinkyThePirate i’ll be called.

i like the sound o’ that. ye scurrvy curr. YAAAAR
